Nik Storonsky: “We want to dominate. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

Revolut’s founder and CEO Nik Storonsky sat down with Bloomberg Tech in Turin in October 2026 — the week a secondary share sale valued the London fintech at $115 billion — and laid out the plan for America: a full digital bank to take on JPMorgan Chase, credit cards with perks on a par with American Express and, when Revolut lists, a primary listing in the US.

“Revolut CEO Aims To Rival JPMorgan, American Express” — published on YouTube by Bloomberg Tech, October 2026.

What he says

  • The US was always the target, for the depth of its markets. A listing will not come before 2028, most likely a dual listing in the UK and the US with the primary one in New York.
  • A bank, not an app. Revolut received conditional approval in September 2026 to operate as a national bank in the US. With a full charter it can take insured deposits, make personal loans and issue credit cards. First personalised banking, then cards and loans, then the UK and European product range.
  • Cards to match Amex and JPMorgan on rewards and benefits, plus products the card companies do not have. The customers he wants: younger and affluent, expats, travellers. The existing US business, run through a partner bank, is already profitable.
  • The numbers. More than 80 million customers today; the ambition is 100 million customers in 100 countries and $100 billion in revenue, grown organically rather than by acquisition.
  • The AI assistant, AIR, will do the shopping. Testing of agentic commerce starts in December, in the UK first. His view: once agents do the browsing, a beautiful app matters less than being agent-compatible — back-end logic and APIs — and within five years automation could thin out the workforce of digital services.
